Save the date: community workday in support of Mālama Hulēʻia

I Ola Wailuanui is inviting you to join us as we kōkua Mālama Hulēʻia in rebuilding the wall of Alakoko (Menehune) Fishpond on October 21st!

Like Wailuanuiahoʻāno, this is a special wetland area in need of restoration and preservation, and we’re excited to kākoʻo our friends in this important work! The event will take place on October 21, 2023 from 7:00 AM HST to 3 PM HST at Alakoko Fishpond (sometimes referred to as Menehune Fishpond).

Read on for more information from Mālama Hulēʻia:

“Join our team for E Kū Ana Ka Paia (The Wall Will Stand), our five-year anniversary on Saturday, October 21, 2023.  SAVE THE DATE!

We've been working hard towards this day!  In just five years time (and with the help of supporters and volunteers like YOU), we've cleared the invasive mangrove and hosted thousands of volunteers and students who have begun the restoration of the loko iʻa.  It is now time to stabilize and rebuild the kuapā (wall) of Alakoko and we want to do it together as a community - let's make history together!”

Stay tuned for more information about this important project by following Mālama Hulēʻia on social media, or sign up to receive email updates on their website. Registration will open soon!

Hey - have you taken a moment to sign our petition?  It is possible you may have already signed a petition relating to the IOW mission.  However, we are hoping you might take a moment to re-sign to show your kākoʻo (support) for our mission to return the area commonly known as “Coco Palms” back into a place where Hawaiian culture and values are the law of the land. Please help us by spreading the word to like minded friends and family!

Mahalo for your support. We hope to see you in October at Alakoko Fishpond!
